The
dipper gourd features a bulb at the blossom end of the gourd with a long thin neck that extends to the stem end. Sub-types include: Short-handled (thicker than usual handle) and usually measure up to 8" in length. Long or Extra-handled dippers can measure up to 6 feet in overall length! The Club or Cave Man's Club dipper is usually elongated with a gradual narrowing into the handle (somewhat like a baseball bat). The Maranka (also known as Alligator, Hercules Club, Alley Oop, Dinasour, or Swan), has a surface with distinctive irregular ridges and grooves which cover the entire bulb area. |
